“As a Chapters Health volunteer, I have found a new purpose in life. Being present during patients’ final stages, listening to them reminisce, supporting them while they connect with family, or just being there. It’s an honor and a privilege to serve during the final chapter of their life. That’s why I do it.”

Once I had a woman meet me in her driveway on my first visit. She wanted me to know that I shouldn’t mention to her mother that she was dying. This loving daughter just didn’t believe her mom could handle it. After looking through family photos and scrapbooking with them for an hour or so, and just before ending my visit, her mother whispered in my ear, ‘Don’t mention my dying to the others . . . they just couldn’t handle it.’

The compassion was obvious. I just listened to both mother and daughter. I supported and encouraged them. And I watched as they moved to a place of honest and open communication. It was beautiful.

It was a privilege to experience the comfort and peace. It makes me proud to be a volunteer.”

Helping others make the most of life.

You care about others — it shows in your kind words, your warm touch and in your selfless desire to help individuals in need.

Chapters Health System welcomes the opportunity to work with you as a volunteer. A vast array of options exists for you to get involved and give back — from working at our thrift stores, grocery shopping for families and clerical work at our offices, to fund raising, sitting vigil or just giving family members a much-needed break.

There are as many ways for our volunteers to participate and make a difference as there are talents to draw from. Yet one common thread remains — by giving, you are the one who receives.

If you or someone you know would like to volunteer to help the frail elderly or those dealing life-limiting illnesses, we’d like to meet you. Together, we can help make a difference in their lives as they face new and unfamiliar chapters in life.
